Annoyed

The Scene: Harrison, my almost 14 yr old, is playing in the living room on the PS3. Ansley, my 5 1/2 yr old is watching him. He's noticeably irritated with his predicament in the game.

Harrison - "Get out of here Ansley!"
Ansley - "I'm not bothering you."
Harrison - "Yes, you are!"

Ansley comes to me, upset that she has been banned from the living room, because "I wasn't even bothering him. I was only touching my toes to his feet - but I wasn't bothering him". I remind her that that is "annoying" and then add on that "Harrison is just annoyed with the game.".

Ansley marches back into the living room and exclaims to Harrison "You are just annoyed at the game! Not me!". ;-)

A Chapter is Closed

When I stop and think about the fact that I have been taking a child to Publix Child Development Center for the last 13 years it really blows my mind! The only break in this 13 year window was in 2002 for 6 months when Ethan started Kindergarten and Ansley was born a few months later. I fear my legacy will not be that of a “Super Mom”. No, I will more likely be remembered as the “if her Mother-in-Law wasn’t the Assistant Director here – I don’t know how she would’ve survived” Mom. I cannot tell you the countless items I forgot to bring over the years (change of clothes, party food, forms, etc.,etc.,etc.). I always wonder how the other moms do it. My children are loved and very well taken care of – but somehow I came up very short on the “organization” gene. While I haven’t entirely given up hope on myself and am always seeking out continuous improvement opportunities – I really do have to thank my Mother-in-Law for always saving my butt! Because it’s so very true…I don’t know how I would’ve survived without her :)

Playlist - 80's Style

While driving home with the family yesterday (and listening to a radio station that plays a good bit of the 80’s) – I was reminded of something I used to do back when I would’ve been about the age my boys are now. I hadn’t thought about it in years! I proceeded to explain to them that I actually used to keep a little cassette/radio that included a recorder primed and ready to record songs directly off radio! So funny to think about it now. I made sure they understood that it meant that no song ever got “cleanly” recorded. You were always bound to catch it a few seconds late or – even worse – the DJ was still talking over the song intro! It was like a slice of heaven if another favorite song came on directly after a prior one AND you hadn’t mistakenly already pressed “Stop”. If only I still had one of those mix-tapes! I would love to see what was “playlist” worthy back then :)

Cliche

While at lunch today, a co-worker and I were discussing something that prompted me to say "I'll Google it". It was something apparently that neither of us knew the answer to. Fast-forward to the end of the lunch break when we were talking about something new that also prompted us to agree that we'll "Google that". This was a reminder that there was something else we were going to Google, but "what was it?". We immediately cursed the loss of memory, knowing it was highly unlikely it would come back to us. This leads me to the point of this post. The co-worker couldn't help but utter the inevitable cliche "I guess it wasn't that important". As soon as it was stated, I said "you know - that cliche is probably my least liked cliche because it's not always a true statement. Darnit!". Then again - it's not like ANY cliche is ever high on any ones list but we all fall prey to using them because they are THERE. Why rack your brain, right?

Please Stand for the National Anthem

One of my favorite parts about calling into an Online Instructor Led Training Course is when there is an echo while the facilitator is speaking. It’s just like being at a baseball game!
